Far Side of Function: Contemporary Wood Sculpture, September 25 - November 22, 2009
September 25 - November 22, 2009
The Dairy Barn Arts Center will present The Far Side
of Function: Contemporary Wood Sculpture September 25 –
November 22, 2009. Michael Stadler is serving as curator of
this phenomenal exhibit, which will feature approximately 60
artworks by artists of regional, national, and international
acclaim. Michael is a roster artist with the Pennsylvania
Council on the Arts Arts in Education program. He also
serves as Continuing Education instructor in the Center for
Turning and Furniture Design at Indiana University of
Pennsylvavia.
As a previous host to the American Contemporary Works
in Wood Exhibit in the 1980’s, The Dairy Barn Arts
Center is not new to a contemporary wood exhibition.
Historically this was a more traditional juried
exhibition, which represented the finest in American
woodworking, a broad overview of the medium and the
diversity of direction contemporary woodworkers were
going.
The Far Side of Function: Contemporary Works in
Wood is a more whimsical look at items that echo
utility from the finest artists at the forefront of this
medium. This art of utility expands the viewer’s
perception of wood sculpture while bringing new
recognition and understanding for the contemporary
artist working in wood.
