The Mountaineer Woodturners booth at the Mountain State Arts & Craft fair at Cedar Lakes was a success again this year. The booth sold about $4,567 worth of member’s turnings this year. Ten members participated in the Woodturners booth. Stan Cook, Jim Morrison, and Joe Smith had their own booths.

We had a fine turnout of folks watching our demonstrators - Byron Young make tops; and John Crede making bats. The booth (tent) looked great with the new shelves, The weather was good and all had a good time.

The "Make & Take" addition was a fine success. There were about 24 persons (roughly 70% adults) who took their turn at turning and took an item home that they had turned on the lathe. Our instructors were Tom Schottle, John Sheets, and Rob Conner. Thanks a lot fellows for making this a success!

Our group also did well at the fair EXPO this year. Jerry Smith with a fine hat and Dave Jones with a nice plate got 2 of the 3 blues awarded to the whole fair. (Not bad in that we took 2 out of 3)!!

A Real Opportunity

There will be an auction of the contents of Dave May’s woodworking shop in St. Marys, WV, on September 30th with a rain date on October 7th at 10:00am.  Dave Mays was a long time member of our group, Serving as president for a number of years. Those of us who knew Dave know that his tools and equipment must have been kept in fine order.

Dave was a first rate carver as well as turner, so there are all sorts of items and wood available. The auctioneer will be Madison Williams. See his website for additional information and directions. The auction address is 1150 Pioneer Community Rd, Belmont, WV. For other information contact the auctioneer at 304-428-4967, or Pat Mays at 304-684-3464.
