February 2004
We had about 27 members and 4 guests present at this meeting. Guests were Zeke Holliday (from Belpre, OH), Tom Thurmond (from Showcase WV), Jerry Smith (Joes brother), and Kevin Kelly (from Huntington). Kevin and Zeke have now joined the Mountaineer Woodturners.
We seem to be plagued by health problems. Maybe we are getting older? Dave Mays showed up with a broken wrist in a cast. Gary Gibbs has carotid artery problems.
Tom Thurmond gave a "pitch" for the "Showcase WV" Arts and Crafts consignment shop in the Charleston Town Center Mall.
Channel 13 was scheduled to be present, but could not show up.
NEXT REGULAR MEETING March 13, 2004 David Hout Cedar Lakes |
Business
The meeting was called to order by our president, Dave Jones. Several items of business were discussed.
Program
| Tom Schottle gave a wonderful demonstration of Alabaster turning. | ![]() |

He showed each step taken in the process of making an Alabaster bowl with segmented foot and rim. It is a rather complicated and dusty procedure. Thanks for the fascinating demo Tom. |
Please Conduct private conversations in the hall during business and Show and Tell portions of the meeting, and when the demonstrator is talking. Some of us do not hear as well as we used to, and that room is inherently noisy. |
Show and Tell
I have to apologize for any mix up on descriptions and photos. Due to me being a bit late, and the large number of entries at this meeting, my notes were a bit confused. A few turnings are missing because some members had removed their items before I had a chance to photograph them.
Mike Wade brought in a tool he uses for beading, and the tool rod used for this tool. He also had a Eucalyptus bowl and a very small Pine bowl.
| Gary Gibbs had a very nice spaulted Maple bowl, | ![]() |
